AMA with Bob Odenkirk on Sketches
Redditor: in interviews I've heard you say that focusing on the 'core idea' of a sketch is the best way for people starting out to get better. meaning, focus on what's funny about the idea and explore and exploit that idea fully. That's been a big help to me as I learn to write sketches. Do you have any other advice for people who are fairly new to writing sketch and really driven to get better?
Bob: I do have advice. Fill a page every day with notes on possible sketches. Don't write 'em up yet...just make notes and try to expand on them. Then, the next day, look back at your notes and take a run at one of the sketch ideas. That distance can help, and too often young writers just dive in to writing a sketch (or feature, or spec tv show, etc) without first picking their best idea or taking the time to find the best angle in.

...Finish
Redditor: how was the path from homemade to film festival to cinema?
Derek Cianfrance: it's been a lifetime. it's important to finish things and put them into the world. and then reflect, and start again. and then... finish.

Steven Soderbergh on Everything
The Vulture interviews my favorite director Steven Soderbergh. Below are some of the most pearliest of wisdoms that he has to offer.  You’ve shown an incredible ability for getting films made, particularly the mid-level, character-driven, superhero-and-vampire-free films that conventional wisdom says don’t get made anymore — from the esoteric sci-fi film Solaris to, yes, even a somber,...
